Warning: remix record, approach with reasonable expectations.
Based on the tunes of Marcy Playground’s album Leaving Wonderland . . . In a Fit of Rage, this remix album combines the solemn tracks of the original with dance beats. This may be disheartening to some Marcy Playground fans. For those who choose to embrace it, the album provides a very different way to enjoy the critically acclaimed 2009 record.
Woah, rewind; are these artists responsible for the 1997 single, “Sex and Candy?” They are in fact. And they have quite the discography. Despite their lack of mainstream success, they have enough of a fan base to host a remix contest online and then record the results — marketing them in an attractive CD case.
The remix album offers much interest. Each track is arranged by a different artist providing the variety lacking in other remixes. Though the tracks vary from slightly to very “dancy” some are quite badass. A pleasant surprise for those who tend to detest the electronic remix genre.
The “why mess with a good thing?” attitude is limiting in the case of the Indama Remixes from Wonderland as it is best enjoyed as a complement to Marcy Playground’s usually quite dark sound. Give it a try, or sample some of the tracks online. Favourites will undoubtedly include “I Burned the Bed,” and the Max Kourilov remix of “Blackbird.”
